AeroShell Turbine Oil 500 - MIL-PRF-23699G, Grade STD /SAE AS5780D Grade SPC
MFG #: 550063909 (Quart)
MFG #: 550042548 (55GL Drum)
AeroShell Turbine Oil 500 is a second-generation, 5 mm²/s synthetic hindered ester turbine oil that is widely used in both civil and military aviation. It is meticulously formulated with a balanced combination of additives to provide superior performance in the demanding environment of gas turbine engines. This oil excels in thermal and oxidation stability, meaning it resists breakdown at high temperatures and prevents the formation of harmful deposits and acids. It also incorporates effective metal passivation to protect engine components from corrosion, even under severe operating conditions.
Key Characteristics:
- Synthetic Ester Base: Utilizes a synthetic hindered ester base oil, offering inherent thermal stability and resistance to oxidation.
- High Thermal and Oxidation Stability: Designed to withstand extreme temperatures and resist degradation, preventing sludge and acid formation.
- Excellent Metal Passivation: Protects various metal surfaces within the engine from corrosion and wear.
- Good Load Carrying Capabilities: Provides a robust lubricating film that protects against wear and scoring, even under high loads.
- Low Volatility: Minimizes evaporation loss at high temperatures, ensuring consistent lubrication and reducing oil consumption.
- Wide Operating Temperature Range: Effective across a broad spectrum of temperatures, from very cold starts to high operating temperatures.
- Low Coking Tendency: Reduces the formation of carbon deposits, contributing to cleaner engines and extended component life.
- Compatibility: While generally compatible with other MIL-PRF-23699 oils, it's important to check for specific seal material compatibility as synthetic esters can affect some paints and plastics.
Application in Aviation:
- Jet Aircraft Turbine Engines: Primarily used as the main lubricating oil for turbojet and turbofan engines.
- Helicopter Turbine Engines: Essential for the lubrication of helicopter turboshaft engines.
- Helicopter Gearboxes and Transmissions: Approved for use in certain helicopter gearboxes and transmissions where a MIL-PRF-23699 oil is specified.
- Aircraft Engine Accessories: Lubricates various engine accessories such as constant speed drives, generators, and starters.
- Industrial Gas Turbine Engines: Also suitable for industrial and marine versions of certain aero-engines that retain similar design elements and lubrication requirements.
