IPG ALF300 3 Mil Premium Aluminum Foil Tape Self-Wound
Interchangeable with 3M Aluminum Foil Tape 425
ALF300 3 Mil Premium Aluminum Foil Tape Self-Wound is a high-performance, highly conformable aluminum foil tape engineered for demanding aerospace and industrial applications. This tape features a self-wound design (meaning it doesn't have a release liner, so the adhesive is directly on the back of the foil), coated with a high-temperature, pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive. According to its Technical Data Sheet, it's designed to offer excellent resistance to extreme temperatures, specifically from -30°F to 325°F (-34°C to 163°C), moisture, UV radiation, and various chemicals. It provides superior heat and light reflectivity, and acts as an effective vapor barrier. Its dead-soft aluminum foil backing ensures exceptional conformability to irregular surfaces, creating a secure and reliable bond in harsh environments.
Key Characteristics:
- Premium Aluminum Foil Backing: Features a dead-soft aluminum foil, typically 3.0 mil thick, providing excellent conformability to curved, irregular, or uneven surfaces without creasing or tearing.
- Self-Wound Design: No release liner simplifies application, reduces waste, and speeds up the process.
- High-Temperature Acrylic Adhesive: Coated with a high-performance, pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive designed to maintain strong adhesion over a wide operating temperature range, specifically -30°F to 325°F (-34°C to 163°C).
- Excellent Heat & Light Reflectivity: The aluminum foil surface reflects heat and light efficiently, providing thermal insulation and protecting sensitive components from radiant heat.
- Superior Vapor Barrier: Creates an effective barrier against moisture vapor, air, and other gases, preventing condensation and corrosion.
- UV and Weather Resistance: Highly resistant to UV degradation, weathering, and aging, ensuring long-term durability in outdoor and exposed environments.
- Chemical and Solvent Resistance: Offers good resistance to many chemicals, solvents, and aviation fluids, contributing to its robust performance.
- Flame Retardant: Often designed to be flame retardant, enhancing safety in critical applications.
- Puncture and Tear Resistant: The durable foil backing provides good resistance to punctures, tears, and abrasion.
Application in Aviation:
- Thermal Insulation and Heat Shielding: Used to wrap and protect wiring harnesses, fuel lines, hydraulic lines, and other sensitive components from radiant heat in engine bays, near exhaust systems, or in areas exposed to high temperatures.
- Moisture and Vapor Barrier: Applied as a sealing tape on insulation panels, air ducts, and cabin structures to prevent moisture ingress, reduce condensation, and maintain cabin pressure.
- Sealing and Patching: Used for sealing seams, joints, and overlaps on various aircraft components, ducts, and insulation materials to create airtight and watertight seals. Can also be used for temporary patching of surfaces.
- EMI/RFI Shielding: The conductive aluminum foil provides effective electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) shielding for electronic components and wiring, preventing signal disruption.
- Surface Protection: Applied to surfaces during painting, stripping, or cleaning processes to protect areas from overspray, chemical exposure, or abrasion.
- Reflective Applications: Used in areas where light reflectivity is desired for visual inspection or other purposes.
- Composite Repair: May be used in composite repair processes for temporary surface protection or as a release layer.
