Flamemaster CS-2725 Epoxy Bonding Compound MIL-PRF-24176 Type I and II
NSN 8030-00-104-6702
Flamemaster CS 2725 is a two-part, room-temperature curing epoxy bonding compound specifically formulated for structural bonding applications in the aerospace industry. This highly versatile adhesive is designed to provide exceptional strength and durability in demanding environments. It creates a strong, rigid bond with a wide variety of aircraft materials, including metals (aluminum, steel, titanium), composites (carbon fiber, fiberglass), and various plastics. Its carefully balanced formulation ensures reliable performance under stress, vibration, and varying temperatures.
Key Characteristics:
- Two-Part Epoxy System: Consists of a resin and a hardener that are mixed prior to application.
- Room Temperature Cure: Cures effectively at ambient temperatures, though heat can accelerate the process.
- High Strength: Develops excellent tensile, shear, and peel strength, making it suitable for critical structural bonds.
- Rigid Bond: Forms a strong, unyielding bond that maintains structural integrity.
- Excellent Adhesion: Bonds exceptionally well to a broad range of aerospace substrates, including metals, composites, and many plastics.
- Chemical Resistance: Offers good resistance to common aircraft fluids such as jet fuels, hydraulic fluids, lubricants, and water.
- Temperature Resistance: Maintains its mechanical properties over a significant temperature range, crucial for aviation applications.
- Good Pot Life: Provides a workable time after mixing, allowing for proper application.
- Non-Sagging: Typically formulated to resist sagging on vertical surfaces, aiding in application control.
Application in Aviation:
Flamemaster CS 2725 is widely utilized in the aviation industry for various structural bonding and repair applications. Its high strength and reliability make it ideal for:
- Bonding aircraft components: Used to join primary and secondary structural elements, including panels, ribs, stringers, and brackets.
- Repair of composite structures: Effective for repairing damage in carbon fiber and fiberglass components, restoring structural integrity.
- Reinforcement of joints: Applied to reinforce mechanical fasteners (rivets, bolts) or to bond dissimilar materials.
- Assembly of interior components: Can be used for bonding certain interior structures where high strength is required.
- Potting and encapsulation: In some cases, it may be used for potting electrical components or encapsulating sensitive parts due to its protective properties.
- Given its robust characteristics, CS 2725 plays a vital role in both the manufacturing and maintenance of aircraft, contributing to overall structural integrity and safety.
