Wire Stainless Steel Brush - 2 Row
Tectyl 846 is a solvent cutback, wax-based, water-displacing corrosion preventive compound designed for robust, long-term protection of metallic surfaces. It cures to a firm, amber, transparent, and non-tacky film that provides an excellent barrier against rust and corrosion. Its formulation allows it to effectively displace water from surfaces, making it suitable for application on parts that may have residual moisture. Tectyl 846 is highly effective in both indoor and outdoor environments, offering reliable protection during storage, domestic, and international shipments, and in operational use.
Key Characteristics:
- Solvent Cutback: Contains solvents that allow for easy application, which then evaporate to leave the protective film.
- Wax-Based Film: Forms a durable, wax-like coating that resists cracking and peeling, providing excellent barrier protection.
- Water Displacing: Actively displaces moisture from metal surfaces, ensuring the protective film adheres directly to the metal.
- Firm, Non-Tacky Film: Cures to a touch-dry, non-sticky film, which is important for handling parts and preventing dirt accumulation.
- Transparent Amber Color: The translucent amber color allows for visual inspection of the underlying metal surface without removing the coating.
- Long-Term Protection: Designed to provide extended corrosion protection, often for years in indoor conditions and for significant periods outdoors.
- Excellent Salt Spray Resistance: Demonstrates superior performance in accelerated corrosion tests like salt spray, indicating its effectiveness in harsh environments.
- Low Volatile Organic Content (VOC): While a solvent cutback, it aims to balance performance with reasonable VOC levels.
- Easy to Apply and Remove: Can be applied by spraying, brushing, or dipping, and can be removed with mineral spirits or similar petroleum solvents.
Application in Aviation:
- Protection of Spare Parts and Components: Applied to spare engine parts, landing gear components, hydraulic assemblies, fasteners, and other metallic aircraft parts during storage or transit to prevent corrosion.
- Internal Cavity Protection: Used to coat the internal surfaces of structural cavities, spars, and other hidden areas that are susceptible to corrosion from moisture or environmental exposure.
- Engine Preservation: Applied to external engine components or certain internal sections during engine storage or transport to prevent corrosion and maintain readiness.
- Machinery and Tool Protection: Essential for protecting precision machinery, tools, dies, and ground support equipment used in aviation maintenance.
- Pre-Assembly Protection: Provides temporary corrosion protection for components before final assembly into the aircraft structure.
- Shipping and Export: Ensures that aircraft components remain protected from corrosion during long-haul domestic and international shipments, often exposed to varying climatic conditions.
- Its ability to displace water and provide a durable, non-tacky film makes it ideal for protecting parts that need to be handled or that will be exposed to environmental factors before final installation or operation.
