Flamemaster CS-135 B1/2 Fuel Tank and Fuselage Sealant (AMS-S-8802 Type II /AMS-3276)
Flamemaster CS 135 is a two-part, synthetic rubber compound (specifically a polysulfide polymer) designed as a fuel tank and fuselage sealant for aerospace applications. It cures at room temperature to form a tough, flexible, and resilient seal with excellent adhesion to various aircraft substrates including aluminum, magnesium, titanium, and steel alloys. This sealant provides superior resistance to aviation fuels, jet oils, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, water, and weathering, ensuring long-term performance and structural integrity.
Key Characteristics:
- Two-Part System: Requires mixing of a base compound and an accelerator/catalyst.
- Polysulfide Based: Provides excellent fuel and chemical resistance.
- Room Temperature Cure: Cures without the need for external heat.
- Flexible and Resilient: Accommodates movement and vibration within the aircraft structure.
- Excellent Adhesion: Forms a strong bond with common aircraft materials.
- Wide Service Temperature Range: Maintains its properties across typical aircraft operating temperatures.
- Long Service Life: Offers durable and reliable sealing for extended periods.
- Resistant to Degradation: Withstands exposure to harsh aviation environments.
Application in Aviation:
Flamemaster CS 135 is primarily used for creating leak-proof seals in integral fuel tanks of aircraft. This is critical for preventing fuel loss and ensuring safe operation. Additionally, it is widely applied for sealing fuselage lap joints, seams, and access doors to maintain cabin pressurization and protect the internal structure from environmental elements like moisture and corrosion. The sealant is typically applied as a viscous paste using extrusion guns, spatulas, or other specialized tools to ensure complete filling of gaps and interfaces. Its flexibility allows it to withstand the stresses and strains experienced during flight.
