Flamemaster CS-2727 Flexible Epoxy Joint Sealer AS5127/1
Flamemaster CS-2727 is a two-part, flexible epoxy joint sealer specifically formulated for demanding aerospace applications. Unlike typical rigid epoxies, CS-2727 is designed to cure into a tough yet flexible material, allowing it to accommodate movement and vibration inherent in aircraft structures. It provides excellent adhesion to a wide range of common aircraft substrates, including aluminum, titanium, composites, and other treated metals. This sealant is engineered to offer superior resistance to aircraft fuels, hydraulic fluids, lubricants, water, and various environmental factors, ensuring a durable and long-lasting seal. Its flexibility makes it ideal for joints that experience dynamic stress.
Key Characteristics:
Two-Part Epoxy System: Consists of a base resin and a hardener that are mixed prior to application.
Flexible Cure: Cures to a rubber-like, flexible consistency, distinguishing it from rigid structural epoxies.
Excellent Adhesion: Forms strong bonds to various aircraft materials including metals, composites, and painted surfaces.
Fuel and Fluid Resistance: Highly resistant to aviation fuels (jet fuel, avgas), hydraulic fluids, engine oils, and water.
Wide Service Temperature Range: Maintains flexibility and sealing properties across a broad spectrum of temperatures common in aviation.
Good Chemical Resistance: Withstands exposure to de-icing fluids and other common aircraft chemicals.
Vibration and Movement Accommodation: Its flexibility allows it to endure dynamic stresses without cracking or losing adhesion.
AS5127/1 Compliance: Meets the stringent requirements of Aerospace Standard AS5127/1, indicating its suitability for critical aerospace sealing applications.
Non-Sagging Consistency: Typically formulated to remain in place on vertical or overhead surfaces after application.
Application in Aviation:
Flamemaster CS-2727 is extensively used in the aviation industry for sealing applications where a flexible yet robust seal is required. Its primary applications include:
Sealing aircraft fuel tank access doors and panels: Provides a reliable, fuel-resistant seal that can withstand the expansion and contraction of the tank.
Sealing aircraft fairings and aerodynamic surfaces: Used to seal joints and gaps in fairings to maintain aerodynamic efficiency and prevent moisture ingress.
Sealing fuselage joints and seams: Applied in areas where some structural movement is expected, ensuring a durable and leak-proof seal against environmental elements and pressurization.
Potting and encapsulation: Can be used for potting electrical components or encapsulating sensitive parts where flexibility and environmental protection are needed.
General aircraft sealing: Employed in various other non-structural sealing applications throughout the airframe where resistance to fuels, fluids, and environmental factors is critical.
