Flamemaster CS-3204 C-20 Integral Fuel Tank Sealant (AMS-S-8802B2 / MIL-S8802F)
Flamemaster CS-3204 C Integral Fuel Tank Sealant is a two-part, manganese dioxide cured polysulfide compound specifically formulated for integral fuel tank sealing in aircraft. The "Class C" designation indicates a liquid, pourable, or extrudable consistency, making it ideal for filling channels, creating consistent sealant beads with an extrusion gun, or flowing into complex cavities. This particular variant (often denoted as C-2 for a 2-hour work life, consistent with AMS-S-8802B2) is designed for applications requiring a longer pot life than Class A or B sealants, allowing more time for application over larger or more intricate areas. Upon curing at room temperature, it forms a flexible, resilient rubber that provides exceptional resistance to aviation fuels, lubricants, oils, water, and general weathering, ensuring a robust and long-lasting, leak-proof seal in the demanding environment of aircraft fuel systems.
Key Features for Aviation:
- Two-Part System: Consists of a base compound and a curing agent (accelerator), mixed just prior to application.
Polysulfide Chemistry: Provides the fundamental excellent resistance to a wide range of aviation fuels and other aircraft fluids.
- Manganese Dioxide Cure: A common curing agent for polysulfide sealants, contributing to robust and durable properties.
- Class C Consistency: Liquid, pourable, or extrudable, making it suitable for channel filling, applying consistent beads with an extrusion gun, or flowing into intricate areas.
- Longer Work Life (C vs A/B): Class C variants typically offer a longer work life (e.g., 2 hours for the "B2" in AMS-S-8802B2) compared to Class A or B sealants, providing ample time for application over larger or more complex areas.
- Excellent Adhesion: Forms strong, durable bonds to common aircraft substrates, including aluminum, magnesium, titanium, steel, and various coated surfaces.
- Superior Fuel and Fluid Resistance: Highly resistant to aviation jet fuels (e.g., Jet A, Jet B, JP-4, JP-5, JP-8), aviation gasoline (Avgas), lubricants, hydraulic fluids (e.g., Skydrol), and water.
- Wide Service Temperature Range: Cured material typically has a service temperature range of -65°F to 250°F (-54°C to 121°C), maintaining flexibility and sealing integrity across varied operational conditions.
- Flexibility and Resilience: Cures to a flexible, rubbery material that can withstand thermal expansion/contraction, vibration, and structural movement without cracking or loss of adhesion.
- Withstands Sulfur Compounds: Designed to resist the attack of sulfur compounds commonly present in jet fuels.
- Color (Varies): While your previous query specified "Black," CS-3204 C can also be available in other colors. The color provides high contrast and visual indication of application and coverage.
Typical Aviation Applications:
- Integral Fuel Tank Sealing: Its primary application is for sealing integral fuel tanks within the wings and fuselage, providing a comprehensive and durable seal against fuel leaks. Its flowable/extrudable consistency is ideal for long seams and large areas.
- Channel Filling: Used to fill channels and complex cavities within fuel tanks or other fluid-carrying structures to prevent fluid entrapment and ensure a smooth flow.
- Large Area Sealing: Applied where a continuous, consistent bead or broad coverage is required, especially in production lines or major overhaul processes, allowing more time for precise application.
- Sealing Access Panels and Fittings: Can be used for sealing larger access panels and complex fittings in fuel systems where an extrudable or pourable sealant is preferred.
- Structural Sealing: Applied in areas where structural integrity requires a robust, fuel-resistant seal that can fill voids effectively.
- Pressurized Cabin Sealing: Can also be used in pressurized cabins and other areas subject to contact with aircraft fluids or weathering where a fuel-resistant flowable sealant is beneficial.
Equivalent to: PPG PR-1440 & PS890
