Flamemaster CS-3213 Class A Gray MIL-PRF-81733 Type I, CL 1, GR A Spec Corrosion Inhibitive Fuel Resistant Sealant
NSN 8030-00-008-7196
CS 3213 Class A is a two-part, manganese dioxide cured polysulfide sealant specifically formulated as a corrosion inhibitive sealant for aerospace applications. This sealant is designed to provide robust protection against corrosion while simultaneously delivering excellent sealing capabilities. The "Class A" designation indicates a brushable or flowable consistency, making it ideal for thin coatings, faying surface applications, or where the sealant needs to fill intricate spaces. Upon curing at room temperature, CS 3213 Class A forms a tough, flexible, and resilient rubber that maintains its integrity under exposure to aviation fuels, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, and environmental elements, providing long-lasting corrosion prevention and leak protection.
Key Features for Aviation:
- Two-Part System: Consists of a base compound and an accelerator, mixed just prior to application.
- Polysulfide Chemistry: Provides the fundamental excellent resistance to a wide range of aviation fuels and other aircraft fluids.
- Corrosion Inhibitive: Incorporates active corrosion inhibitors to prevent degradation of metal surfaces, especially in the presence of moisture and dissimilar metals.
- Manganese Dioxide Cure: A common curing agent for polysulfide sealants, contributing to robust and durable properties.
- Class A Consistency: Brushable or flowable, making it ideal for application by brush, roller, or spray (if compatible with equipment) for faying surfaces, intricate areas, or thin coatings.
- Excellent Adhesion: Forms strong, durable bonds to typical aircraft substrates, including aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and composite materials, even on clad aluminum.
- Superior Fuel and Fluid Resistance: Highly resistant to aviation jet fuels (JP-4, JP-5, JP-8, Jet A/B), hydraulic fluids (e.g., Skydrol), and engine oils.
Wide Service Temperature Range: Maintains flexibility, sealing properties, and corrosion inhibition across the typical operating temperatures of aircraft.
- Flexibility and Resilience: Cures to a flexible, rubbery seal that can withstand aircraft vibrations, thermal cycling, and structural movement without cracking or delamination.
- Good Work Life (Pot Life): Provides sufficient time for application before curing, depending on the specific "A" class variant (e.g., A-1/2, A-2, A-4, where the number indicates the pot life in hours).
Typical Aviation Applications:
- Faying Surface Sealing: Applied between mating surfaces of structural components to prevent corrosion and provide a seal against moisture and fluid ingress. This is a primary application.
- Fuel Tank Sealing (Internal): Used for sealing internal fuel tank structures, particularly where a brushable product is needed to cover complex geometries or fill small gaps while providing corrosion inhibition.
- Fastener Sealing: Applied around rivets, bolts, and other fasteners in corrosion-prone areas to prevent fluid penetration and inhibit corrosion.
- Corrosion-Prone Areas: Used in various compartments and structures susceptible to corrosion, such as bilge areas, landing gear bays, and other hidden areas exposed to environmental elements.
- Filleting and Void Filling (Thin Applications): For creating thin fillets or filling small voids where corrosion protection is needed.
- Repair Applications: An excellent choice for both production and field repairs requiring both sealing and corrosion inhibition.
