Flamemaster CS3330 CI Class A AMS-3284B Type II Access Door Sealant - Specialized, Easy-Access Sealant for Aircraft Doors and Panels
CS 3330 CI Class A is a two-part, chemically curing polysulfide compound specifically formulated as a low adhesion sealant for aerospace applications. Unlike traditional sealants designed for strong, permanent bonds, CS 3330 CI is engineered to provide a reliable seal with controlled, lower peel adhesion, allowing for easier removal or separation of components during maintenance or inspection. The "CI" indicates it contains corrosion inhibitors for added protection of the underlying metal surfaces. The "Class A" designation typically refers to a brushable or flowable consistency, making it suitable for thin coatings or applications where it needs to spread. Upon curing at room temperature, it forms a flexible and resilient rubber that is resistant to aviation fluids and environmental exposure, while facilitating future disassembly.
Key Features for Aviation:
- Two-Part System: Consists of a base compound and an accelerator, mixed just prior to application.
- Polysulfide Chemistry: Provides excellent resistance to a wide range of aviation fuels, hydraulic fluids, and lubricants.
- Low Adhesion / Easily Removable: This is its defining characteristic. It cures to a seal that can be easily peeled or separated from surfaces without leaving significant residue or damaging the substrate, enabling non-destructive access.
- Corrosion Inhibitive (CI): Contains additives to actively protect metal surfaces from corrosion, even with its lower adhesion profile.
- Class A Consistency: Brushable or flowable, making it ideal for thin coatings, faying surface applications, or filling intricate spaces where ease of removal is desired.
- Fluid Resistance: Highly resistant to aviation jet fuels, hydraulic fluids, engine oils, and water.
- Wide Service Temperature Range: Maintains flexibility, sealing properties, and removability across the typical operating temperatures of aircraft.
- Flexibility and Resilience: Cures to a flexible, rubbery seal that can withstand thermal cycling and vibration.
- Controlled Cure Time: Provides sufficient work life (pot life) for application, with specific "A" class variants (e.g., A-1/2, A-2) indicating the work life in hours.
Typical Aviation Applications:
- Access Panel Seals (Removable): Ideal for sealing access panels on fuel tanks, hydraulic systems, or other compartments that need to be frequently opened for inspection or servicing. The low adhesion ensures easy removal without damaging the panel or substrate.
- Temporary Sealing: Used for temporary sealing applications during maintenance phases where a protective barrier is needed but easy removal is essential.
Inspection Covers/Plates: Applied around inspection covers or plates on the airframe or components where a weather-tight or fluid-resistant seal is required, but disassembly is routine.
- Faying Surface Sealant for Disassemblable Joints: Can be used between mating surfaces that require a seal and corrosion protection but also need to be separated periodically.
- Protection of Sensitive Components: May be used to coat or seal sensitive components that need protection from environment/fluids but also require future access.
