Flamemaster CS3330 CI Class B AMS-3284B Type II Access Door Sealant - Specialized, Easy-Access Sealant for Aircraft Doors and Panels - Non chromate
NSN: 8030-00-881-3933
CS 3330 CI Class B is a two-part, chemically curing polysulfide compound specifically formulated as a low adhesion sealant for aerospace applications. This sealant is engineered to provide a reliable barrier against fluids and corrosion while offering controlled, lower peel adhesion, which facilitates easy, non-destructive removal or separation of components during maintenance or inspection. The "CI" indicates the inclusion of corrosion inhibitors for enhanced protection of underlying metallic surfaces. The "Class B" designation typically refers to a trowelable consistency, making it suitable for application by spatula or extrusion gun for creating fillets, sealing seams, and larger areas where removability is desired. Upon curing at room temperature, it forms a flexible and resilient rubber that resists aviation fluids and environmental exposure, contributing to easier future disassembly and repair.
Key Features for Aviation:
- TTwo-Part System: Consists of a base compound and an accelerator, mixed just prior to application.
- Polysulfide Chemistry: Provides excellent resistance to a wide range of aviation fuels, hydraulic fluids, and lubricants.
- Low Adhesion / Easily Removable: This is its defining characteristic. It cures to a seal that can be easily peeled or separated from surfaces without leaving significant residue or damaging the substrate, enabling non-destructive access.
- Corrosion Inhibitive (CI): Contains additives to actively protect metal surfaces from corrosion, even with its lower adhesion profile, making it suitable for use in corrosion-prone areas.
- Class B Consistency: Trowelable, allowing for easy application with a spatula, spreader, or extrusion gun for filleting, sealing seams, and larger surface areas.
- Fluid Resistance: Highly resistant to aviation jet fuels, hydraulic fluids, engine oils, and water.
- Wide Service Temperature Range: Maintains flexibility, sealing properties, and removability across the typical operating temperatures of aircraft.
- Flexibility and Resilience: Cures to a flexible, rubbery seal that can withstand thermal cycling and vibration without cracking.
- Controlled Cure Time: Provides a specific work life (pot life) for application, with specific "B" class variants (e.g., B-1/2, B-2, B-4) indicating the work life in hours, allowing for controlled application over various task durations.
Typical Aviation Applications:
- Removable Access Panels: Ideal for sealing larger access panels and inspection covers on fuel tanks, hydraulic systems, or other compartments that require frequent opening. The low adhesion ensures the panel can be removed easily without damaging the sealant or mating surfaces.
- Sealing Disassemblable Joints: Used between mating surfaces of structural components that require a fluid-tight seal and corrosion protection, but are designed for periodic disassembly, such as bolted flanges or fairing attachments.
- Temporary Sealing: Can be employed for temporary sealing applications during extended maintenance phases where a protective barrier is needed but eventual easy removal is paramount.
- Fuel Cell Rib/Stiffener Attachment: In some fuel cell designs, a low adhesion sealant might be used where a seal is needed, but the ability to later remove or adjust components is important.
- Protection of Components Requiring Regular Inspection: Applied to components that need protection from the environment or fluids but must be regularly inspected, allowing for quick and clean removal.
