PPG Aerospace PR-1782 Class A - AIMS 04-05-001/ AIMS 04-05-12 Spec Low Density Fuel Tank Sealant
The PPG PR-1782 Class A is a two-part, manganese dioxide-cured polysulfide compound engineered to address one of aviation's most critical design constraints: weight. This low-density formulation achieves a significant weight reduction (up to 30%) compared to standard sealants, allowing engineers to maximize aircraft payload and fuel efficiency without compromising safety or fluid resistance. As a Class A sealant, it delivers a precise, low-viscosity application ideal for penetration and coverage, making it the superior choice for high-integrity brush sealing.
The PR-1782 Class A is indispensable for both MRO and OEM projects where weight is monetized:
- Fuel System Overcoating: The gold standard for brush-sealing fasteners and rivets within integral fuel tanks, preventing micro-leaks and aggressively inhibiting crevice corrosion.
- Pressurized Fuselage Seams: Used to seal internal seams and joints in the airframe, providing both a pressure seal and corrosion protection with a minimum weight penalty.
- Advanced Airframe Assembly: Preferred in the assembly of composite and metallic structures where low-density materials are specified to meet stringent weight targets.
