PPG Aerospace PR1422A1/2 AMS-S-8802 Class A1/2 Fuel Tank ealant
PPG Aerospace PR-1422 is a two-part, dichromate-cured polysulfide compound designed for use in integral aircraft fuel tanks and other aircraft fuselage sealing applications. This is the gold standard sealant for demanding aerospace environments, known for its superior resistance to jet fuel, aviation gas (avgas), and excellent elastomeric properties across a wide temperature range. The specific designation PR1422A1/2 indicates a sealant optimized for quick, brush-applied sealing tasks that require minimal work time.
Key Features for Aviation:
-
Fuel and Fluid Resistance: Maintains superior elastomeric properties after prolonged exposure to jet fuel, avgas, water, and common aircraft fluids.
-
Temperature Range: Service temperature range from to ( to ), with intermittent excursions up to ().
-
Class A-1/2 (Application): Class A denotes a brushable consistency for sealing fasteners and small gaps. The dash number signifies an application (work) life of hour at standard room temperature (), ideal for fast-paced line work or urgent repairs.
-
Cure Type: Two-part, room-temperature curing polysulfide compound.
- Excellent Adhesion: Forms a resilient, durable bond with common aircraft substrates, including aluminum, titanium, and steel.
Typical Applications:
- Brush Sealing: Fastener heads, rivets, and small seams within integral fuel tanks.
- Corrosion Control: Sealing joints and interfaces on the fuselage where fuel or moisture exposure is a concern.
