AeroShell Calibrating Fluid 2 - 55 Gal
The Shell Water Detector is the global aviation industry standard for performing a "Go/No-Go" test for the presence of undissolved (free) water in jet fuel. This simple, reliable, and cost-effective method is essential for ensuring fuel quality at every stage of the supply chain—from the refinery to the aircraft wing. Each box contains 80 tests, typically packaged in 8 moisture-proof tubes of 10 capsules each, ensuring a long shelf life and portability for field technicians.
-
Key Features and Benefits
High Sensitivity: Detects free water levels as low as 30 ppm (parts per million).
- Instant Results: Provides a visual color change in seconds, allowing for immediate decision-making.
- Industry Trusted: Recognized and recommended by international fuel quality standards like JIG (Joint Inspection Group).
- User Friendly: Requires no complex laboratory equipment; used with a standard 5ml syringe.
- Portable Design: Moisture-sealed tubes protect capsules from humidity until the moment of use.
How It Works:
The test utilizes a specialized, water-sensitive paper inside a plastic capsule.3 When a 5 ml sample of aviation fuel is drawn through the capsule:
-
Yellow Result: If the paper remains yellow, the fuel contains less than $30\text{ ppm}$ of free water and is safe for use.
- Blue/Green Result: If the paper changes to a distinct blue or green color, the fuel has failed the test and contains a dangerous level of suspended water.
Note: The Shell Water Detector is designed specifically for Jet A, Jet A-1, and JP-8. It is not intended for use with AVGAS or fuels containing certain anti-icing additives (unless specifically noted by the manufacturer).
