SkyKleen 1000 Solvent
SkyKleen 1000, is a new-generation aviation solvent engineered to deliver excellent cleaning performance while prioritizing environmental responsibility and worker safety. It is a clear, water-white liquid with low odor that is designed as a smarter alternative to traditional, more aggressive solvents like acetone, isopropyl alcohol, freon, or chlorinated solvents. SkyKleen 1000 effectively dissolves and removes a wide range of aviation-specific contaminants without adversely affecting metals or leaving residue. Its controlled evaporation rate allows for better penetration and reduced waste, making it a versatile and efficient cleaning solution for aircraft maintenance.
Key Characteristics:
- Advanced Solvent Technology: Specifically formulated for aerospace applications, combining powerful cleaning with improved safety and environmental profiles.
- Environmentally Friendly: Inherently biodegradable, non-halogenated, non-ozone depleting, and minimizes VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions. It is classified as non-hazardous waste per RCRA.
- Low Odor: Significantly more pleasant to work with compared to many traditional solvents, enhancing worker comfort and safety.
- Non-Combustible/Non-Caustic: Features a high flash point (typically above 99°C / 210°F), making it non-combustible under normal use conditions, and is non-caustic, reducing risks to personnel and materials.
- Effective Cleaning: Highly effective at dissolving and removing various aviation contaminants.
- Material Compatibility: Does not adversely affect common aircraft metals, carbon epoxy composites, or many paints, crucial for maintaining aircraft integrity.
- No Residue: Evaporates cleanly, leaving no residue behind, which is vital for pre-painting and pre-bonding preparations.
- Controlled Evaporation: A relatively slow evaporation rate allows for better penetration into contaminants and reduces product waste.
Application in Aviation:
- Polysulfide Sealant Removal: Used to remove both cured and uncured polysulfide sealants, which are extensively used in aircraft fuel tanks and fuselage sealing.
RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) Silicone Removal: Efficiently removes RTV silicones used for sealing and gasketing.
- Degreasing: Excellent for degreasing various aircraft components, including engine parts, before inspection or reassembly.
- Carbon Removal: Effective in removing carbon deposits from brake and piston housings.
- Engine Cleaning: Used for external cleaning of engine components and bays.
Final Cleaning Prior to Painting and Bonding: Essential for preparing surfaces to ensure optimal adhesion of paints, primers, and adhesives.
- General Surface Cleaning: Ideal for routine cleaning of aircraft surfaces, composite structures (e.g., carbon epoxy composites), and fiberglass resin removal.
- Adhesive/Epoxy Removal: Helps in the removal of certain adhesives and epoxies during repair or overhaul.
